Gene and protein expression of CXCR4 in adult and elderly patients with chronic rhinitis, pharyngitis or sinusitis undergoing thermal water nasal inhalations

摘要: Chronic rhinitis, pharyngitis and sinusitis are common health problems with a significant impact on public health, suspected to be influenced by ageing factors. Nasal inhalation thermal water may used reduce symptoms, inflammation drug intake. A pre-post clinical study was conducted in 183 consecutive adult elderly patients chronic or sinusitis, evaluate whether nasal inhalations could improve their signs rhinomanometry measurements, influence inflammatory biomarkers levels epithelial cells. Participants profile revealed that they were aged average (mean age SD 60.6 ± 15.2 years, median 65, range 20–86, 86 ≤ 65 years (47%), 96 > 65 years (53%)) extremely concerned about wellbeing. Older associated better compliance treatment. Total symptom evaluation scores significantly ameliorated after treatment (p < 0.001), no substantial difference according age, while results inconsistent. Persistence of improvement confirmed at phone follow up 1 year later (n = 74). The training set 48 genes (40 patients) strong increase CXCR4 gene expression inhalations, both the validation (143 patients; 1.2 ± 0.68 vs 3.3 ± 1.2; p < 0.0001) protein 1.0 ± 0.39 2.6 ± 0.66; p < 0.0001). consistently changed sinusitis. smaller current smokers compared non-smokers. Results substantially unchanged when comparing subjects (≥ 65 years) eldest quartile (≥ 71 years) others. Other showed weaker variations (e.g. FLT1 reduced only sinusitis).
