摘要: Abstract Change in the membrane fluidity of human erythrocytes on transformation to stomatocytes was observed by ESR spectroscopy using 12-doxyl stearic acid or its methyl ester as a probe. When induced four qualitatively different methods, i.e. (a) addition cationic amphiphilic agents such chloropromazine, tetracaine, chloroquine primaquine, (b) Triton X-100, non-ionic detergent, (c) lowering pH, and (d) depleting cholesterol, fluidization always observed. This indicates existence close correlation between stomatocyte formation increase fluidity. Furthermore, since fixed diamide treatment exhibited only presence reagent, enhanced direct consequence reagent interacting with, changing state of, lipid bilayer itself, not through influence some structural alteration spectrin. These results provide experimental support for theoretical prediction made Brailsford et al. [J. theoret. Biol.86, 531 (1980)]. Plausible mechanisms discocyte-stomatocyte are discussed.
