Disease and mortality among great bustards (Otis tarda) at Whipsnade Wild Animal Park, 1989 to 1999

摘要: Between 1989 and 1999, 351 clinical examinations six postmortem were made on the great bustards (Otis tarda) maintained at Whipsnade Wild Animal Park. Soft tissue-related traumatic injuries accounted for 35 per cent of all findings, musculoskeletal disorders 26 cent, lameness was one main reasons a veterinary examination. Poor condition 30 findings associated with periods cold wet weather during winter spring; affected birds isolated provided nutritional support. Haemosiderosis haemochromatosis observed in four five from which samples taken histopathology.
