摘要: Problem: Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is preventable, under-diagnosed, and under-reported. Wisconsin rates for alcohol use binge drinking in childbearing-age women exceed the national average. FAS prevalence has not previously been systematically evaluated. Methods: The Screening Project (WFASSP) used a multi-stage, multisource prospective population-based screening methodology to identify children born 1998-1999 Southeast who met surveillance case definition FAS. 4-stage of electronic birth files, abstraction neonatal medical records, direct assessment facial features, growth, development at age 2 3 years. Results: rate was 0.23 per 1000 births. Children directly evaluated had fewer demographic, pregnancy, maternal substance risk factors than lost-to-follow-up children. Thirty-two percent with weight head circumference below 10th percentile were developmentally delayed 47% least one physical growth delay.
