摘要: Maternal alcohol consumption during pregnancy is a public health concern due to the possible lifelong physical and cognitive effects in offspring. Prevention of alcoholexposed pregnancies (AEP) should begin preconceptionally, either by preventing unintended or discouraging women who are atrisk for pregnancy. The purpose this dissertation utilize Theory Planned Behavior’s construct perceived behavioral control (PBC)—including power beliefs—to guide measurement understanding two behaviors related AEP among non-pregnant women: birth use binge drinking. For first specific aim—to estimate prevalence alcohol-exposed pregnancies—a secondary data analysis was conducted using surveillance from North Dakota South have had child with FAS. FAS estimates (per 1,000 live births) both states (ND=0.8/1,000; SD=0.9/1,000) were found be higher than that calculated national averages (0.7/1,000) comparable methodology. goal Specific Aim 2 determine risk random group women, while 3 determined beliefs decreasing drinking levels, 4 focused on relating PBC these intentions. Data aims 2-4 derived mailed, cross-sectional survey 190 randomly chosen an electronic records system upper Midwest. Of included analyses, eight (6.6%) being at-risk (i.e., sexually active but not always effective form control) (Specific 2). This lower estimates. 3, there high direct scores drinking, positive correlation between indirect (although negative scores). Finally, uncovered intentions drink. Also, measure significantly associated intention when controlling other variables, although neither nor appeared actual behavior. score one another; as well, Therefore, relationship validated behaviors, association PBC, intention, behavior indicated Overall, study supported disagreed previous research, indicating additional research theory topic matter necessary.
