摘要: Background Hydatid cyst disease, commonly caused by Echinococcus granulosus, rarely occurs in paraspinal muscles. Among the few reported cases, current case is largest hydatid disease ever literature with a review of management such large lesions. Case Description A 38-year-old male presented lower back swelling for 1 year. Ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging scans suggested hydatidosis, following which patient was taken up surgery after preoperative medical therapy. En bloc resection done, histopathologic examination resected specimen confirmed diagnosis. Postoperative albendazole also used, no recurrence noted at 24 months post operation. Conclusions should be kept as one differential diagnoses swelling, especially endemic regions. Giant-sized cysts muscles, though rare, cannot ruled out on clinical ground alone. Thorough history taking detailed aided radiologic investigations like an accurate excision combined postoperative therapy effective method treating this condition significantly reducing complication rates.
