摘要: Bacteria are traditionally considered to be genetically haploid,* and their DNA content per cell is much less than that of “typical” eucaryotic cells (Sparrow et al., 1972). Superficially, these features would appear restrict adaptive flexibility, yet procaryotes have enjoyed extraordinary evolutionary success, the point where range ecological niches they (rather eucaryotes) occupy defines limits biological habitability on Earth.
