摘要: Theoretical research on evolutionary aspects of territoriality has a long history. Existing studies, however, differ widely in modelling approach and question. A generalized view the evolution is accordingly still missing. In this review, we show that territorial conflicts can be classified into qualitatively distinct types according to what mode access territory which competitor attempts gain. We argue many inconsistencies between existing studies traced back fact that, while using same terminology, different instances these have been investigated. discuss connections each type conflict within wider area animal conflicts. conclude clear conceptual separation helpful but more general theory account for interdependencies them mechanistic needed.
