摘要: background Angiogenesis is an essential process required for growth and metastasis in cancer. In breast, gastric, prostate cancer, vascular endothelial factor (VEGF) has been implicated angiogenesis; however, little known about VEGF HNSCC. this study, we hypothesize that present elevated levels HNSCC may therefore play a role promoting angiogenesis. methods We obtained tumor tissue from 63 patients undergoing primary resection. All samples were analyzed by immunohistochemistry (IHC) techniques the presence localization of VEGF; only 36 had sufficient amounts quantitative analysis ELISA. Nine control specimens taken uvulopalatopharyngoplasty also analyzed. results all our patient found to be localized cancer cells cells. The poorly differentiated stained more intensely comparison with well-differentiated ones. There was 20-fold increase when compared controls (P ≥0.05). Analysis enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay revealed mean (241 ± 326 pg/mg total protein [TP]) range 2 1484 TP. 13 11 TP 1 78 Patients who exhibited higher tended have rate disease recurrence ≤0.048) shorter disease-free interval ≤0.05). conclusions expression microenvironment appears associated aggressive disease. Based on results, important angiogenic Further studies are needed better define its as potential target therapeutic intervention.
