摘要: Transects consisting of multiple, connected segments with a prescribed configuration are commonly used in ecological applications line intersect sampling. The transect has implications for the probability which population elements selected and how selection probabilities can be modified by boundary tract being sampled. As such, also affects performance methods designed to eliminate edge-effect bias. We show that reflection method solves edge-problem designs use symmetric radial transects (e.g., straight-line X-shaped centered at sample point). This applies asymmetric transects, provided orientation is uniformly random. Asymmetric include straight lines emanating from point, L- Y-shaped transects. does not apply where polygonal triangular, square, hexagonal transects) used, or orientations fixed. provide new eliminates bias fixed orientation, but workable solution remains elusive.
