摘要: ABSTRACT Background Osteomyelitis associated with infected overlying wounds represents a difficult diagnostic and therapeutic problem; bone biopsies can be done during debridement of the wounds, but it is unclear how often results these cultures actually affect subsequent antibiotic decisions. The present study was undertaken to evaluate usefulness in guiding therapy for this type osteomyelitis. Methods Culture 44 taken surgical 41 patients over period from June 1994 August 1998 were compared those determine whether data affected choice antibiotics. design that retrospective chart review which standard operative microbiological procedures place at Milwaukee Veterans Affairs Medical Center used. Results Sixty-one wound 55 isolates obtained study. Thirty-one found bone, not wound; diphtheroids most common organism fashion. Correlation between generally poor. Antibiotics subsequently changed 20 cases after biopsy became known, already being covered 10 ignored 14 cases. Conclusion Because seem aid tailoring almost half when sampled surgery, technique may very helpful certain should regularly are carried out.
