摘要: REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY The ante mortem diagnosis of equine multinodular pulmonary fibrosis (EMPF) relies on histopathological results and polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-positive herpesvirus (EHV)-5 testing lung tissue. Polymerase detection EHV-5 in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) is commonly used to support a EMPF. However, the diagnostic power BALF other biological samples such as blood nasal secretions has yet be shown OBJECTIVES To determine frequency viral loads by quantitative PCR (qPCR) blood, from horses confirmed with EMPF, healthy non-EMPF diseases. DESIGN Prospective study. METHODS study population consisted 70 adult divided into 4 groups based combination clinical findings, cytology BALF, imaging studies thoracic cavity histopathology tissue: control group (n = 14), EMPF 11); inflammatory airway disease 32); interstitial 13). For each horse, whole were available for qPCR testing. Sensitivities, specificities their respective 95% confidence intervals calculated BALF. In addition, these measures combined use secretions. RESULTS was strongly associated (sensitivity 91%, specificity 98.3%). Detection was, independent loads, sensitivity 91% 83.1%. displayed highest (72.7%) (83.1%) at level >245,890 glycoprotein B target genes/million cells Dually positive any yielded 90% 89.8%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Although confirmation (lung biopsy) considered gold standard diagnosis, or should regarded clinically useful this diagnosis. latter may relevant when dealing respiratory distress, which invasive procedures collection biopsies detrimental health.
