Cognitive functioning and employment in severe mental illness

摘要: This study compared cognitive functioning and symptomatology of unemployed, supported employed, independently employed clients with severe mental illness. Unemployed who wanted to work (N = 21) were working in employment programs 17) had been for at least 1 year 23) on a neuropsychological battery the Positive Negative Syndrome Scale. Clients unemployed more symptoms worse both positive negative symptoms, almost all domains functioning. Supported psychotic memory than clients, but did not differ or other functioning, including attention/concentration, psychomotor speed, verbal learning memory, executive functions. Finally, job complexity was correlated impaired functions among independently, employment. Severe impairment may interfere ability some illness obtain competitive work. appear by helping compensate problematic and, lesser extent, finding developing environmental niches which these impairments do impede their perform necessary tasks.
