摘要: Plant defence against herbivores includes resistance (avoiding damage) and tolerance (reducing the negative fitness effects of damage). As plants grow increase their resource–garnering capacity, they should invest more in defence, but tradeoffs between plant functions may also change with ontogeny, thus complicating predictions on simultaneous ontogenetic trajectories tolerance. In a laboratory experiment, we used ten accessions Arabidopsis thaliana that represent gamut levels naturally found species to examine whether an early vegetative stage fruit-ripening stage, test for both modes. We measured constitutive larvae generalist moth, Trichoplusia ni, estimated costs at stages. from not Accessions differed tolerance, resistance. Despite finding significant stages, no tradeoff An examination biomass partitioning senescence revealed propensity make roots were tolerant herbivory. Our results show can be different, even though detected, these are necessarily linked Lastly, capacity large shoot (mostly inflorescence) root tissue is ability tolerate
