摘要: In order to establish the appropriateness of our current prophylactic antibiotic regimen we analysed prevalence MRSA in emergency referrals unit. screening records for all admissions a 3-month period were analysed. One-hundred-and-seventy-five patients admitted as transfers from another hospital. Evidence was found 61% (107 patients). Of screened patients, 15% (16) positive. Source referral or length inpatient stay after time transfer not predictive status. Gentamicin is active against more than 95% strains cultured hospital and 87% neurosurgery A number-needed-to-treat (NNT) analysis showed that, with at 15%, cefuroxime plus gentamicin induction could prevent one infection per 421 treated compared alone. Vancomycin had minimal additional benefit over (NNT: 1684). We conclude that carriage common referred emergencies other hospitals. Cefuroxime can be used prophylaxis this group. reserved known colonized 51).
