摘要: This volume counters the widely accepted notion that traditional family patterns are weakened by forces such as economic development and social revolutions. China has experienced wrenching changes on both political fronts, yet from evidence presented here tradition of filial respect support for aging parents remains alive well.Using collaborative surveys carried out in 1994 middle-sized industrial city Baoding comparative data urban Taiwan, authors examine issues shaping relationships between adult Chinese children their elderly parents. The continued vitality intergenerational obligations these samples is not simply an instance strong Confucian trumping powerful change. Instead, somewhat paradoxically, strength can be attributed largely to institutions socialism forged era Mao Zedong.
