摘要: Although there is a high prevalence of overweight among Navajo children and adolescents, other risk factors for chronic disease in this population have received little attention. We therefore examined the distribution interrelationships overweight, cigarette smoking, blood pressure plasma levels lipids glucose 160 12- to 19-y-olds. In agreement with previous reports, participants were approximately 2 kg/m2 heavier than adolescents general U.S. population, (> 85th percentile) was 35-40%. Levels total cholesterol similar those but had 5-10 mg/dL lower median level HDL cholesterol, 30 higher triglyceride level. Eight percent either impaired tolerance or diabetes mellitus as assessed through an oral test (n = 10) self-report 1). Relative weight (kg/m2) associated adverse lipids, lipoproteins glucose, having fivefold greater elevated adolescents. Tobacco use fairly prevalent boys (24% cigarettes, 23% smokeless tobacco), not girls (9% 3% tobacco). Because its associations various diseases later life, it may be beneficial focus on primary prevention obesity
