摘要: : The population of Rhinoceros unicornis in the Chitwan Valley, Nepal, was reduced to an estimated effective size (Ne 21–28 individuals (60–80 total animals) 1962. Protein electrophoresis shows that heterozygosity remains very high this (Ho= 9.9%) despite its near extinction. We attribute large Ne's prior bottleneck, recent occurrence and long generation time. These results illustrate importance considering historical demography life history parameters when evaluating possible genetic effects bottlenecks wild populations. They also offer support arguments erosion diversity attributed may be overemphasized.
