摘要: We demonstrated the ability of several methylotrophic methanogens to degrade dimethylsulfide and methane thiol hydrogen sulfide, methane, carbon dioxide. This is first report growth a pure culture methanogen on thiol. Methanolobus siciliae HI350, isolated from an oil well, was grown routinely trimethylamine. When this inoculated into medium with 5 mM dimethyl it began producing sulfide after lag weeks. Methane production slow, apparent microbial rate 0.0033 h-1 (about 3% as fast trimethylamine or methanol). The shorter when 2 substrate. M. HI350 growing subcultured dimethylsulfide, disappeared higher (0.087 h-1). Dimethylsulfide-grown cultures also had no transferred media Studies cell-free extracts suggested that enzymes for degradation were inducible, whereas those methanol constitutive. Degradation complete, stoichiometric quantities formed. Most surprisingly, strain could be adapted grow high concentrations thiol, 30 mM. Other which have been reported catabolize are T4/M, Methanohalophilus zhilinaeae WeN5, oregonensis WALL, GS-16. strains GS-16 able use their catabolic substrate (other not tested). tested other at did inhibit found following unable dimethylsulfide: Methanococcoides methylutens TMA-10, tindarius Tindari 3, vulcani PL-12/M, mahii SLP, halophilus Z-7982, Methanosarcina mazeii LYC, C 16.
