摘要: This study provides a comprehensive genetic overview on the endangered Italian wolf population. In particular, it focuses two research lines. On one hand, we focalised melanism in order to isolate mutation related with black coat colour canids. With several reported black individuals (an exception at European level), population constituted challenging field posing many unanswered questions. As found North American wolf, that population is caused by different melanocortin pathway component, K locus, which beta-defensin protein acts as an alternative ligand for Mc1r. project was conducted collaboration Prof. Gregory Barsh, Department of Genetics and Paediatrics, Stanford University. On other performed analysis high number SNPs thanks customized Canine microarray useful integrate or substitute STR markers genotyping and detecting wolf-dog hybrids. Thanks DNA microchip technology, obtained an impressive amount data solid base future functional genomic studies. This study undertaken Prof. Robert K. Wayne, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
