摘要: Purpose There is limited information in the literature regarding oral complications of neutron radiotherapy, with an associated lack guidelines for their management. The purpose this study was to review indications, dosing, prognosis, and radiotherapy salivary gland malignancies. Materials Methods This a retrospective case series patients malignancies treated by Radiation Oncology Department at University Washington from 1997 2006. Variables included patient demographics, tumor staging characteristics, operative treatment, final diagnosis, pathologic findings (ie, perineural invasion, lymph node involvement, skull base invasion), complications, locoregional control survival rates. Data were extracted patients' charts telephone follow-up quality-of-life information. Results sample composed 140 (49% men, 51% women) mean age 53 years (standard deviation, 15 yr). Adenoid cystic carcinoma submandibular most common type location. Post-treatment trismus occurred 56%. Acute mucositis xerostomia approximately 88 89% patients, respectively. Osteoradionecrosis reported 5.7% patients. 6-year rate 58% 72%. current standard dose head neck tumors 1.15 Gray (nGy) 4 times per week 4 weeks (total, 18.4 nGy), which equivalent amount radiation as 60 70 Gy given 6 7 weeks conventional photon radiation. Conclusion overall found compares favorably traditional treatment advanced tumors. dental profession should be educated its dosing methods, complications.
