摘要: Patients with epilepsy suffer from a two to three fold increased death rate as compared age and sex matched control population. This risk culminate five in patients drug resistant partial eligible for surgery, the majority of deaths classified sudden unexpected (SUDEP). The pathophysiology SUDEP remains uncertain, but all witnessed cases occurred during or immediately after seizure. Several studies have evaluated impact surgery on seizure related SUDEP. Four series concentrated operated patients, rates those free non post-operatively. Three these reported significantly lower cured by still seizing. other mortality surgically versus medically treated refractory epilepsy. failed show any significant difference between patients. All above various types methological limitations, hampering definite conclusion regarding mortality. launching novel large multicentric studies, which address pitfalls prior series, should allow provide conclusive results within next years.
