摘要: Objective: To determine incidence of and risk factors for sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). Methods: Three centers enrolled 4,578 patients prospectively followed these 16,463 patient-years. The cohort was screened annually. Deaths were investigated to whether SUDEP occurred. Potential compared cases controls contemporaneously at the same center. Results: Incidence 1.21/1,000 patient-years higher among women (1.45/1,000) than men (0.98/1,000). accounted 18% all deaths. Occurrence tonic-clonic seizures, treatment with more two anticonvulsant medications, full-scale IQ less 70 independent SUDEP. number seizures a factor only women. presence cerebral structural lesions use psychotropic drugs last visit not this cohort. Subtherapeutic levels equally common groups. No particular appeared be associated Conclusions: These results support idea that are an important proximate cause This information creates profile may help direct preventative efforts.
