摘要: Abstract Pavement and railtrack design is of huge importance to society yet the theoretical basis for most current methods still very simplistic crude ( Brown, 1996 , Yu, 2006 ). This paper part a concerted effort at Nottingham Centre Geomechanics develop improved foundations pavement design. It mainly concerned with development rigorous lower-bound solutions shakedown cohesive-frictional materials under three-dimensional moving traffic loads. Compared previous studies, two important aspects are taken into account. First, this considers more general case elliptical contact area between material surface, as studies considered load applied through an infinite long roller. Secondly, by introducing critical self-equilibrated residual stress field, problem reduced formulation in terms parameter only. By using simple optimisation procedure, maximum leads limit problem. Results special circular also presented analytical form, which can then be readily practical
