摘要: We have investigated the contribution of neocortical vibrissal representation within posterior medial barrel subfield (PMBSF) to high performance levels obtained by rats in a complex roughness discrimination task mediated inputs. Nine binocularly occluded were trained two-choice until they 85% correct response criteria. Subsequently, PMBSF was localized electrophysiological recordings and bilaterally ablated. The locus extent cortical lesions confirmed histological analysis after additional training testing. There no evidence retention lesion barrelless unable obtain prelesion discriminative when stimulation restricted solely cues. After extensive postlesion training, four these allowed palpate discriminanda with their forepaws. Under conditions rapidly reached criterion once again. present results indicate that is essential for tactile sensory information through vibrissae active palpation. This deficit specific system, not solve same source somatosensory provided other non-vibrissal cutaneous receptors.
