摘要: Visual inspection of the cervix after application 3–5% acetic acid (VIA) is a potential alternative to cytology for screening in low-resource countries. The present study evaluated performance VIA, magnified visual (VIAM), and detection high-grade cervical cancer precursor lesions Kolkata (Calcutta) suburbs eastern India. Trained health workers with college education concurrently screened 5881 women aged 30–64 years VIAM, conventional cytology. Detection well-defined, opaque acetowhite close squamocolumnar junction; circumorificial lesions; or dense acetowhitening ulceroproliferative growth on constituted positive VIA VIAM. Cytology was considered if reported as mild dysplasia worse lesions. All (N = 5881) were by colposcopy, biopsies directed those colposcopic abnormalities 1052, 17.9%). final diagnosis based histology (if had been taken) findings, which allowed direct estimation sensitivity, specificity, predictive values.
