摘要: This contribution describes mechanical properties of the whisker system rats. The motivation for work was to achieve a better understanding functionality this remarkable sense organ by defining structure-function-correlations. Special features different types are interpreted in terms their morphological background, e.g., object recognition and texture discrimination. whiskers found be conical shape. Theoretical considerations rod reveal certain advantages conically shaped rods over cylindrical rods. There is difference deformation, with higher values applying Whiskers have very flexible tip which sensitive small forces. Uniaxial bending tests using actual were performed characterize static parameters. From experimental data obtained, spring constant, Young's modulus flexural stiffness calculated. one standard parameter characterization materials. It that can regarded as constant along an average value 7.36 GPa. Flexural depend on hair diameter decrease from base tip. short vibrissae exhibit lowest stiffness, means they results obtained might well used basis optimization or construction bioinspired technical sensor systems.
