摘要: Our laboratory investigates how animals acquire sensory data to understand the neural computations that permit complex sensorimotor behaviors. We use rat whisker system as a model study active tactile sensing; our aim is quantitatively describe spatiotemporal structure of incoming information place constraints on subsequent encoding and processing. In first part this paper we steps in development hardware (a 'sensobot') array can perform object feature extraction. show provides insights into neurophysiology behavior real animal. second paper, suggest acquisition across be quantified using complete derivative. example wall-following illustrate computing appropriate spatial gradients sensor would enable an animal or mobile robot predict will acquired at next time step.
