Role of nitric oxide in P. aeruginosa keratitis caused by distinct bacterial phenotypes.

摘要: OBJECTIVES Nitric oxide (NO) plays an important role as a signal molecule well cytotoxic effector of the nonspecific innate immune response. The aim this study was to examine played by NO during P. aeruginosa keratitis. METHODS In study, we investigated level in BALB/c mouse eyes challenged with strains Pear1 (noninvasive/noncytotoxic), 6294 (invasive) and 6206 (cytotoxic). Following corneal challenge aeruginosa, corneas were collected at 1, 8, 16, 24 hours after infection. levels measured determining nitrite nitrate concentrations homogenates. Human epithelial cells grown tissue culture also infected measured. RESULTS strain 6294, peaked 16 declined 24-hour challenge. For Paer1, peak production noted Strain produced maximal from 8 hours. cultures showed no significant NO, indicating that epithelium is unlikely source CONCLUSIONS keratitis may protect tissues damage.
