摘要: Herpes simplex keratitis is a significant cause of blindness worldwide. Nitric oxide (NO) has been shown to play role in non-specific defence mechanisms and cell signalling bacterial parasitic infections. We investigated if virus (HSV) isolated from could induce NO production. Human corneal epithelial cells were infected with high (multiplicity infection; MOI 0.4) low (MOI 0.04) HSV-1 HSV-2 concentrations. Culture supernatants collected at 1 h, 4 8 12 h 24 post-challenge. Samples prepared by removal proteins ultrafiltration. Production was measured using nitrite nitrate assays. virus-1 downregulated the production NO, while upregulated Downregulation be survival strategy against cytotoxic action eliminate cells. Upregulation may associated presence glycoproteins on viral coat, which have other disease conditions. Further studies are required confirm keratitis.
