Friction stir welding of thermoplastics using a newly designed tool

摘要: Abstract Although friction stir welding (FSW) is a recent addition to plastics joining technology, it has been shown have many benefits over traditional welding, particularly in terms of joint quality. In FSW thermoplastics, tools usually form slit on the backside welded specimens. Therefore, serious problem named “root defect” occurred and leads poor tensile strength workpiece. this paper, newly designed tool with two shoulders, touches upper beneath surface workpiece used order weld acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) sheets. The new named, “self-reacting tool”, successfully eliminated back parts. Moreover Shape pin (simple convex), rotational speed translational are experimentations as variable parameters affecting mechanical properties. Tensile considered property parts research. Obtained results show that shape greatest effect
