摘要: Polar lows are not properly resolved in global re-analyses. In order to describe the year-to-year variability and decadal trends formation of such mesoscale storms, atmospheric limited area models, which post-process re-analysis data, may be an appropriate tool. this study we demonstrate merits potential approach. A series 3-week long ensemble simulations weather situations over NE Atlantic with a model/regional climate model (CLM) examined. The was driven NCEP‐NCAR re-analyses at lateral lower boundaries. Additionally, spectral nudging technique used enforce large-scale circulation, as given by reanalysis, on simulation. members differ initial conditions taken from several consecutive days. most cases, polar low developed after simulated time about 2 weeks, that is, initialization calculations. spectrally nudged version is very insensitive conditions. observed were reproduced all members. reasonable correlation between features those derived satellite product (HOAPS-III) operational high-resolution analyses (DWD) found. considerably deepened compared driving analysis, but comparison maps indicates some differences detail. When CLM run without constraint nudging, considerable emerges across different often does emerge.
