摘要: A layer of tektite glass and shock-metamorphosed grains found in an upper Eocene section core 21 from DSDP Site 612 taken on the continental slope off New Jersey may belong to North American strewn field. In order better define layer, a series samples was continuously through at 1 cm intervals. Tektite fragments are 8 thick layer; microtektites concentrated 4 cm, while spherules with crystalline textures (microkrystites) lower half layer. Millimeter-size splash forms mostly part tektite-bearing Rock mineral showing evidence shock metamorphism abundant Coesite is abundant, stishovite one rock fragment. The size abundance shocked debris indicate that relatively close source crater, which be north coastal plain or adjacent shelf. 40 refs.
