Measuring socio-economic outcomes in Sydney: An analysis of census data using a general deprivation index

摘要: The release of the ABS 2001 census data has allowed renewed analysis spatial patterns social phenomena to be reviewed with up-to-date data. This paper adopts a methodology first outlined in Canadian studies calculate several measures deprivation across Sydney suburbs. uses principal components and develops various socio-economic demographic aspects. also calculates general index based on weighted factor scores. illustrates that significant variations exist different aspect urban deprivation, but generally is concentrated western suburbs smaller pockets located inner-city towards New South Wales central coast. provides further support for points avenues future research.
