摘要: Abstract Aim We aimed at estimating excess medical expenditures associated with major depressive disorder (MDD) among working-age adults diagnosed diabetes, disaggregated by treatment mode: insulin-treated diabetes (ITDM) or non-insulin-treated (NITDM). Methods analyzed data for over 500,000 individuals from the 2008 U.S. MarketScan claims database. grouped diabetic patients first mode (ITDM NITDM), then MDD status (with without MDD), and finally whether those used antidepressant medication. estimated annual mean outpatient, inpatient, prescription drug, total using regression models, controlling demographics, types of health coverage, comorbidities. Results Among persons having ITDM, expenditure no (the comparison group) was $19,625. For MDD, were $12,406 (63%) larger if medication $7322 (37%) not NITDM, corresponding group $10,746, $10,432 (97%) $5579 (52%) medication, respectively. Inpatient largest ITDM treated medication; all others outpatient expenditure. Conclusions substantial expenditures. Implementing effective interventions demonstrated in clinical trials guidelines recommended professional organizations might reduce economic burden this population.
