Endogenous Retroviral Transcripts in Myocytes From Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats

摘要: The spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) is a well studied animal model of genetic hypertension and heart disease unknown cause. With the use differential display, transcript was found in SHR myocardium that on sequence analysis identified as an endogenous retrovirus (ERV). ERV gene expression greater than order magnitude increased adult hearts relative to age-matched normotensive Wistar-Kyoto rats further from with failure. In situ hybridization studies demonstrated localized myocardial cells. Increases transcripts suggest possible link between inherited proviral elements disease.
