Optimised rooting depth and its impacts on the simulated climate of an atmospheric general circulation model

摘要: Rooting depth determines how much water can be stored in the soil which is accessible to vegetation for transpiration. Here, we derive a global distribution of rooting with an optimisation principle: A simple formulation Net Primary Production (NPP) incorporated into General Circulation Model and then NPP maximised respect depth. The obtained depths are considerably larger those used present-day models but consistent observations. increases substantially use optimised depths, mainly tropical regions during dry season accompanied enhanced increased flux latent heat leads considerable decrease 2m air temperature, better agreement We conclude that important property, especially tropics, deforestation might have impact on climate than previously thought.
