摘要: RECENT developments in our understanding and application of high-resolution defocusing phase contrast electron microscopy have contributed significantly to structural studies carbon fibres from a range precusor materials1–4. For example, we are now able follow the natural pattern carbonisation standard commercial process for poly-acrylonitrile (PAN)-based fibres, detect variations structure which give rise abnormal physical properties5,6. One major factor has influenced success work on is stability stacked ribbons irradiation by an beam, relative ease with {002} lattice fringes can be recorded. In fibrous organic polymers observed massive degradation order as revealed rapid deterioration electron-diffraction pattern7,8; this precluded recording lattice-fringe images so prevented breakthrough would undoubtedly result direct observation fibre at molecular level.
