摘要: A survey was undertaken to provide a profile of current reading programs in juvenile correctional facilities. Data were gathered determine whether "illiterates" exist the facilities; if oral comprehension is better than comprehension; what approaches and strategies are used for teaching word recognition skills; concepts teachers consider valid; their beliefs supported by experimental research; using contradictory instructional strategies. Questionnaires sent working 260 145 responded. Results indicated that: (1) 89.6% with some wards, 13 18 years age, who cannot decode fluently accurately they can talk about understand; (2) tests students comprehend orally at higher levels when did not compare versus comprehension. also great variance between teacher's strategies--though research supports use systematic phonics as best approach those fluently, many "sight words" "wholes," visual having difficulty recognizing speech sounds, encouraging identify unknown words context clues.
