摘要: ABSTRACTIntroduction: Atorvastatin (Ator), is the treatment of choice for reducing blood cholesterol. Most adverse effects associatedwith Statins therapy are muscle-related. Alfacalcidol (ALF), a vitamin D analog commonly used in osteoporosis; showedbeneficial beyond skeleton including muscle.Aim work: Investigating possible protective effect ALF induced myopathy rats.Materials and Methods: Twenty-one adult male albino rats were divided equally into 3 groups: Group I (control). GroupΙΙ (Ator): received (10 mg/kg/day). ΙΙΙ (Ator-ALF): Ator concomitantly with Alfacalcidol(0.5 μg/kg/day). After 4 weeks daily oral medications administration, samples from all analyzed creatinephosphokinase (CPK). The middle parts biceps femoris muscles processed paraffin blocks Hematoxylin andEosin stain cytochrome C immunohistochemical that subjected to morphometric statistical studies. Moreover, resin semithin ultrathin sections examination. Results: In group II, light microscopic examination revealed fragmented tapered muscle fibers, addition loss ofregular pattern transverse striation. Many fibers section acquired an irregular outline. Statistically, elevatedCPK level, decreased mean fiber diameter increased area % immunoreactivity comparedto control recorded. Electron showed dissolution many myofibrils mitochondriaeither disfigured giant or destructed cristae. However, III almost comparable thecontrol clear striations. That confirmed statistically by CPK musclefiber versus II. While ultrastructurally, fewareas myofibrillar noted. Conclusion: Alfacalcidiol has on biochemical analysis, andelectron as well via
