摘要: Runcorn, North West England, has been a site of industrial activity for over 100 years. Preliminary investigations have revealed excess risk renal mortality in the population living closest to several sources pollution. Exposure airborne mercury highlighted as possible cause, although there is also concomitant exposure solvents and other heavy metals this population. The authors used validated air dispersion modeling identify mercury-exposed populations. Standardized ratios kidney disease were computed using government region reference. There was significant exposure-response relation between modeled estimates (test trend: p = 0.02 men 0.03 women), more pronounced estimated historical 0.01 < 0.001 women). These findings suggest that cause population, indicating might still be health legacy historically high levels Runcorn area.
