摘要: Although seemingly rare, leukemia is the second most common cancer in children less than 1 year of age. This represents 5 to 10% childhood leukemias, with an incidence 44 per million “infants” or approximately 200 infants diagnosed United States each year. For unclear reasons, this appears be rising over past 20 years. Infant leukemias include subsets both acute lymphoblastic and myeloblastic (ALL AML) unique clinical biologic features, including mixed lineage (MLL) rearrangements. The historical definition “infant” based on observation that age respond poorly standard therapies for older leukemia. In recent years, we have gained appreciation nature infant struggled poor outcome our youngest patients ALL, as well public health implications emerging environmental dietary risk factors. 2 four major trials reported improved outcomes bringing new hope greater understanding.
