Noise can play an organizing role for the recurrent dynamics in excitable media

摘要: We analyze patterns of recurrent activity in a prototypical model an excitable medium the presence noise. Without noise, this robustly predicts existence spiral waves as only two dimensions. With small however, we found that is also capable generating coherent target patterns, another type widely observed experimentally. These remain essentially deterministic despite yet their impossible without it. Their degree coherence can be made arbitrarily high for wide ranges parameters, which does not require fine-tuning. Our findings demonstrate need to reexamine current modeling approaches active biological media.
