The influence of culturally derived values on Anglo and Puerto Rican mothers' perceptions of attachment behavior.

摘要: This 2-part investigation examined indigenous concepts of desirable and undesirable attachment behavior among middle- lower-class Anglo Puerto Rican mothers in order to formulate culturally sensitive criteria normative behavior. Study 1 elicited using open-ended probes. On the basis mothers' responses 1, vignettes were constructed, relevant descriptors toddler characteristics selected. In 2, perceptions hypothetical toddlers compared selected descriptors. The findings indicate that, whereas focus more on associated with presence or absence individual autonomy, place emphasis child's ability maintain proper demeanor a public context.
