摘要: Neurological disorders such as stroke, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases are associated with high morbidity mortality, few or no effective options available for their treatment. These share common pathological characteristics like the induction of oxidative stress, abnormal protein aggregation, perturbed Ca2+ homeostasis, excitotoxicity, inflammation apoptosis. A large body evidence supports beneficial effects Mediterranean diet in preventing neurodegeneration. As is characterized by a consumption extra-virgin olive oil it has been hypothesized that oil, particular its phenols, could be responsible effect diet. This review provides an updated vision properties phenols preventing/counteracting both acute chronic neurodegenerative diseases.
