Energy-efficient P2P file sharing for residential BitTorrent users

摘要: BitTorrent is currently a very popular protocol for P2P file sharing, and most of users access the Internet from residential networks. In this paper we compare legacy with EE-BitTorrent, proxy-based version recently proposed energy efficiency, in scenario. We show that performance achieved by strongly influenced uplink throughput allowed network. When available rate low, performs poorly EE-BitTorrent outperforms it, terms average download time consumption at user's PC. The opposite occurs when good. Motivated these results, designed implemented AdaBT, an adaptive algorithm dynamically selects efficient option (i.e., or proxy-based), depending on operating conditions experienced user. Our experimental results AdaBT able to reduce significantly provided either EE-BitTorrent.
