摘要: In the troposphere, fate of gas-phase Criegee intermediates (CIs) is deemed to be determined by their reactions with water molecules. Here it shown that CIs produced in situ on surface water/acetonitrile (W/AN) solutions react competitively millimolar carboxylic acids. Present experiments probe, via online electrospray mass spectrometry, CIs’ chemistry α-humulene and β-caryophyllene W/AN microjets exposed O3(g) for <10 μs. Mass-specific identification lets us establish progeny products generated early stages H2O, D2O, H218O, n-alkyl-COOH (n = 1–7). It found competes interfacial water, competitiveness being an increasing function n. findings demonstrate can species other than H2O aqueous organic aerosols due low concentrations prevalent outermost layers.
