摘要: Abstract Introduction Though the submandibular gland (SMG) is routinely sacrificed for several reasons during neck dissection in patients undergoing curative surgery oral cavity cancers, it might be an innocent bystander and should considered preservation. This study aimed to identify incidence, different patterns of invasion, risk factors SMG involvement squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Methods was a retrospective who underwent upfront biopsy-proven SCC. A consistent protocol-based treatment strategy followed period. Data about clinical profile including demographics, histology details, were extracted analysed. Results total 303 unilateral bilateral dissections contributing 79.2% (n = 240) 20.8% (n = 63) respectively. The common primary sites buccal mucosa (n = 129, 42.5%), tongue (n = 100, 33.0%) alveolar gingiva (n = 52, 17.2%). four SMGs showed tumor resulting prevalence 1.09% per (n = 366) 1.32% patient (n = 303). Of these cases involvement, one with cancer had direct invasion while other three (alveolar – two, one) node metastasis. Conclusion present confirms very low incidence undergo dissection. It often observed high burden (≥N2 disease presence extracapsular spread) or by tumor.
