摘要: Background Radiofrequency (RF) ablation of cardiac arrhythmias is often performed in the presence metallic materials heart. Objectives We hypothesize that metal objects proximity to an RF source can lead ohmic heating surrounding tissue. Furthermore, we insulation mitigate this effect. Methods A model consisting viable bovine myocardium or thermochromic liquid crystal medium, a circulating saline bath at 37°C, and load cell was used. 4-mm catheter positioned with 10 g force over placed copper wire, defibrillator lead, circular mapping catheter. applied 30 W, tissue temperatures were measured. Ablation near insulated noninsulated esophageal temperature probes also performed. Results resulted higher temperatures. Average maximum distances for observed thermal changes >45°C ± 5.2 0.3 mm 5.7 0.4 when interposed between ground electrode. Presence probe increased tissues adjacent caused lesions remote site. Esophageal prevented these increases injury nontargeted tissues. Conclusion Effects are potentiated components medical devices, leading significant heating. Further research needed assess safety impact objects, particularly probes.
