摘要: An examination of the carotene fractions extracted from Euglena gracilis Z and pressure-bleached mutants PR-1, PR-2, PR-3, PR-4 revealed phytoene in PR-3. Photosynthetic E. cultured at different light intensities showed no detectable phytoene, nor was found mutant PR-4. However, dark-cultured yielded readily assayable amounts phytoene. With exception PR-4, which C40 carotenoids were detected, following carotenes identified all their mass spectra: phytofluene, ζ-carotene, β-zeacarotene, β-carotene. Of these, β-zeacarotene had not previously been unequivocally Euglena.
